THE HISTORY OF KINGSCLIFF
Football, also known as soccer, was introduced to Kingscliff by Eric Oxley in 1968 when he formed the Kingscliff Junior Soccer Club. Initially, just one under-8 team was entered into the local competition, but this soon grew to include under-10 and under-12 teams too.
For the next five years, the teams played other clubs from around the Gold Coast. Originally, there were no football fields available in Kingscliff, so the team had to travel to South Tweed Heads instead. These fields were located on the site where Boyd’s Bay Caravan Park now exists.
In 1972, grounds finally became available in Kingscliff, but unfortunately, the club disbanded as the boys started high school. However, it wasn’t long until the interest in football returned, and the club that we know and love today was formed in 1978.
